Tree 20-35 m high, the crown widely ovoid. The bark is gray, smooth, later with net of gaps. Leaves are odd-pinnate, 12 to 25 cm long, composed of 5 to 13 leaflets. The leaflets has serrate margin with tips turned upside. The veins are hardly visible on the underside. There is a same number of side veins than dents on the margin. The flowers are arranged in racemes, discreet. Flowering in April. The fruit are samaras. Seed cover is flattened, usually is longer than ½ of achene. Shoots: Shoots thick, glabrous, near buds depressed. Leaf-pads distinguish. Leaf-scars big, hemispherical. Natural range: South and Central Europe, North Africa; in our area domestic.
