Tree 20-30 m high, the crown is slender, ovoid, stem is a straight. The bark is gray, smooth, later rough. Leaves are odd-pinnate, 25 to 30 cm long, composed of 7 to 15 leaflets. The leaflets has serrate margin with flat ends of dents. The veins are visible on the underside. There are less side veins than dents on the margin. The flowers are arranged in panicles, restrained. Flowering before leaves occur in April. The fruit are elongated samaras with wings, on the basis rounded. Seed cover flattened, usually shorter than ½ of achene. Shoots: Shoots thin, glabrous, near buds squeezed. Leaf-pads distinguish, older black. Natural range: Europe (except the southern part), Caucasus; in our area domestic.

Buds

Buds are opposite, black, hairy, terminal bud bigger. Lateral buds are smaller, hemispheric, sedentary.
