Deciduous shrub 2-3 m high, the bark of older stems is dark gray to black. The bark of roots and branches with gutta-percha. Leaves are simple. The lamina is ovate at length, tipped with serrulate margin. The veins on the underside are shortly glandously hairy. The flowers consisting from 4 petals, yellowed. Flowering in May to July. The fruit are leathery capsules, pink to red colored. Seeds are brown, in orange arillus. After opening of capsule seeds hanging on the long loop. Shoots: Shoots are green, older squared cork lines. Lateral branches very thin, often arched. Natural range: Europe, Western Asia; in our area domestic.

Buds

Buds are opposite, spiky, green. Cover scales dark on the edge.
