Shrub or a small tree 2-5 m high. The bark with and linear and transversal patches. Shoots are green, usually soon dark red to brown (at least at the sunny side), round, sedentary hairy, with dense warts. Older glabrous, olive or brown colored. The core is narrow, white-colored. Buds are opposite. Terminal bud is wider. Lateral buds are sedentary, pedunculated (stalks green). The scales are serrated. Buds are similar to naked buds. Leaves are simple. The lamina is elliptic, tough. The front leaf is freshly green, lighter on the underside as well as hairy (curly and standing). Flowers are white, organized into a flat cyme. The core is narrow, white-colored. Natural range: Europe, western Asia Minor; in our area domestic.

Fruits

The fruit is spherical,blue-black to black drupes with white dots. They are bitter and disgusting. Stones are spherical, on the top slightly depressed.
