Tree up to 25 m with spherical, thick crown. The stem is often torque and bumpy. The bark is in the youth smooth, later stripping. The leaves are opposite and palmately compound, with 5–7 leaflets. The whole leaf has long petiole, leaflets are sessile. Leaflets are obovate, irregularly doubly serrate. The middle leaflets is the longest among others. Leaves are green and matt on the front leaf. They are shortly red-hairy on veins and on the veins branching on the underside. The flowers are in erected panicles, up to 30 cm long. The flower crown is white, with pink dots: On the basis there is yellow, later red dot. Flowering in May. The fruits are spherical capsules, light green, with soft spikes and 3 flaps.In one capsule there are 1-4 seeds. Shoots: Shoots are thick, at first hairy, later hairless. Distinguish rings and dark lenticels. Leaf-scars are big. Natural range: South-east Europe; in our area introduced.
