Tree 10-20 m high with sparse crown. The bark is smooth, later lengthwise splitting. Leaves are odd-pinnate with 1 or 2 pairs of leaflets. The margin is roughly serrate. The terminal leaf may be lobate. Flowers before leaves occur in March and April. The fruit are samaras in pairs, the angle between them is less than 90 degrees. Shoots: Shoots are green, usually with gray waxy coating. They are smooth and hairless. Natural range: North America; in in our area introduced.

Buds

Buds are opposite, with short stalks. Terminal bud is gray, egg-shaped. Lateral buds are sedentary. Bud scales are covered by shiny hair.
