Tree or shrub 15-20 m tall. The bark is soon lengthwise and slightly transversally ridged. Leaves are simple. The lamina has 5 lobs. The margin is entire or roughly dentate (with blunt dents). The lobs are blunt, the cuts round. The flowers are arranged in erected panicles. Flowering in April to May. The fruit are in pairs in samaras, with straight angle. Seed cover is flat. Shoots: Shoots are yellowish-brown, shortly hairy, later hairless. Older branches with cork strips. Natural range: Europe (to the southern edge Sweden and the Volga river), the west Asia; in our area domestic.

Buds

Buds are opposite, sedentary. Terminal bud is brown, egg-shaped, small. Lateral buds are sedentary with bud scales with gray hair, on the edge ciliated (white).
