In early age silky hairy, later bald. The front sice is dark green, matt, the underside bluish green. The fruit are flat legumes. They are light brown-colored, bumpy. They contain kidney-shaped brown seeds, which are on the surface wrinkled. Legumes remain in the tree until the spring. Shoots: Shoots are thin, pentagonal, shiny, glabrous and twisted. They are usually prickly. Thorns tend to be in a pairs with bud inbetween them. The core pentagonal. Natural range: Central and eastern part of North America; in our area introduced.
