Tree up to 25 m tall (rarely shrub) with a deeply scattered bark. Leaves are odd-pinnate, composed by 4 to 8 pairs of leaflets. The top leaflets are tipped with entire margin, elongate-ovate, on the base widely cuneate or rounded. The front side is dark green, the underside is lighter with white hairs. The petiole is hairy too. Yellowish - white flowers are iarranged in paniclesd up to 35 cm long. Flowering in July and August. The fruit are cylindrical, strangulated legumes (so called loments). They are greenish, glabrous and shiny. They contain 1-6 seeds. Seeds are oval, black-brown, shiny. Shoots: Shoots are thin, green-colored, shiny, glabrous, lengthwise corrugated. Leaf-pads are showy. The branch smells when cut. Natural range: East Asia; in our area introduced.
