Tree 15-30 m tall with sparse crown. The bark is stripping in slices. Leaves are bipinnate, up to 90 cm long. On the main petiole, there is 2 to 7 pairs of vřeteno of second degree. On the last petiole, there are simple leaflets, on others, there are composed of 3 to 7 pairs of leaflets. Leaflets are ovate or elliptic, shortly tipped on the top, round or diamond shaped on the base. The margin is entire. The flowers are white, arranged in panicles up to 30 cm long. Flowering in May and June. The fruit is thick woody legumes. At the ends is rounded or with short spike. The color is reddish-brown to violet. The pod contains 3-5 round disc-shaped seeds, which are dark brown. Shoots: Shoots thin, 6-15 mm with big leaf scars. Natural range: Eastern part of the US; in our introduced.
