Shrub or tree, 2-5 m tall with smooth, dark grey bark, which is stripping in slices. Leaves are simple. Lamina is lanceolate, pointed and the margin is entire (may be serrulate in the upper part). The base is diamond shaped or rounded. The veins on the underside are hairy. Petiole is 5 to 7 mm long. The flowers are white. Flowering in May and June. The fruit is spherical, brown mapome with significant calyx. The pome is narrow on the basis, colored green-brown to brown with significant lenticels. Contains 2-5 seeds. The fruit is edible. Shoots: Shoots are hairy, later hairless, brown to grayish-colored. Natural range: South-east Europe to south-west Asia; in our area introduced.
