Deciduous shrub up to 2 m height with straight branches. Leaves are simple. Lamina is elliptical, pointed, glabrous and matt (not shiny). The underside is shortly hairy. The margin is entire. Flowering in April to June. The fruit is red or purple spherical pome with pulpy calyx. It contains 2-4 seeds. Shoots: Shoots are at the ends with yellow-green hair, later hairless, smooth, with stripping bark. Lateral shoots are often short. Natural range: Europe (except the northern part), Crimea, Asia Minor, the Caucasus; in our area domestic.

Buds are small, alternated, irregular, with a few loose scales and often with the protruberating hairy leaves.
