Tree 8-18 m tall. Bark is gray, smooth, later lengthwise cracked. Leaves is odd pinnate with green petiole. It has 6 to 10 pairs of leaflets usually. Leaves are lanceolate with symmetrical basis. The margin is serrate with brown veins falling off, lower third has entire margin. Front leaf is dark green, underside grayish green. Whole leaf may be up to 20 cm long. Flowering in May. The fruit is pome, 1,5 to 3 cm, yellow, partly orange or red, thick dotted (lenticels), spheroidal shape. Seeds are 6-7 mm long. Shoots: Shoots are slightly hairy, olive-brown, with light brown linear lenticels. Old branches are gray, glabrous and shiny. Natural range: South Europe (northern limit is in south Slovakia), Asia Minor, North Africa; in our area considered introduced.

Buds

Buds are yellow-green, glabrous, ovoid, very sticky. The cover scales are on the edge brown, terminal bud is bigger than lateral buds.
