Tree (rless often Shrub) 3-12 m tall. The bark is gray, smooth, at old age stripping. Leaves are odd pinnate with reddish petiole. It has 5 to 9 pairs of leaflets usually. Leaves are lanceolata with asymmetrical basis. The margin is serrate or doubly serrate, in lower quarter entire. Whole leaf may be up to 20 cm long. Flowering in May. The fruit is brown pome up to 1,5 cm, not-shiny, with many lenticels. Teardrop-shaped seeds are 6-7 mm, dark brown. Shoots: Shoots are slightly squared, brown, shiny, with numerous small light lenticels. Old branches are grey-brown, glabrous. Lateral branches are short, gnarled. Natural range: Europe, Asia Minor, the Caucasus, Syria, North Africa; in our area domestic.

Buds

Buds are yellow-green, ovoid. The cover scales are shiny, glabrous, on the edge brownish (sometimes ciliate), slightly sticking-out.

Leaves

Lamina is simple, lobed, widely obovate. Base is diamond or heart shaped. The margin is serrate or doubly serrate, entire by the basis. The front is glabrous, hairy only in early age, the underside is glabrous.

Fruits

The fruit is brown pome up to 1,5 cm, not-shiny, with many lenticels. Teardrop-shaped seeds are 6-7 mm, dark brown.
