Tree (rless often Shrub) 3-12 m tall. The bark is gray, smooth, at old age stripping. Leaves are odd pinnate with reddish petiole. It has 5 to 9 pairs of leaflets usually. Leaves are lanceolata with asymmetrical basis. The margin is serrate or doubly serrate, in lower quarter entire. Whole leaf may be up to 20 cm long. Flowering in May. The fruit is brown pome up to 1,5 cm, not-shiny, with many lenticels. Teardrop-shaped seeds are 6-7 mm, dark brown. Shoots: Shoots are slightly squared, brown, shiny, with numerous small light lenticels. Old branches are grey-brown, glabrous. Lateral branches are short, gnarled.
