European Barberry

Shrub up to 3 m tall, deciduous, spiny, with yellow hardwood. Blooms in April to May. Flowers are yellow in overhanging racemes. Crimson red berries, glossy, narrowly ellipsoidal, about 1 cm long. Seeds are drop-shaped, light brown, shiny. Shoots: Shoots with ribs, yellowish-brown or reddish, glabrous and thorny. Thorns on the end of the shoots are simple or do miss, in the lower part they have 3 parts. Natural range: Europe Central and S , Crimea, Asia Minor, the Caucasus; in our area domestic.

Buds

Buds are non-alternate, small, naked, obovate, and bald. They are located in the accessory of thorns.

Leaves

Leaves are simple. The lamina is elliptic, thin and irregularly serrated with spines. Leaves are up to 5 cm long.

Fruits

Crimson red berries, glossy, narrowly ellipsoidal, about 1 cm long. Seeds are drop-shaped, light brown, shiny.
