Tree 7-20 m tall often with thorns. Bark is cracked. Leaves are simple. Lamina is obtuse or ovata, glabrous or sparsely hairy. Shiny on the leaf front, light green on the underside. The margin serrulate or entire. Petiole is 2 to 6 cm long, glabrous, thin. The flowers are white, arranged in corymbs. Flowering in the late April and May. The fruit are spherical pome, up to 3 cm. They are brown-yellow with lenticels. Shoots: Shoots are glabrous, shiny. At the end of long shoots there is bud or thorn. There are thorns on lateral branches too. Natural range: Western and Central Europe, Asia Minor; in our area domestic.
