Deciduous bush up to 4 m tall, with many branches. Leaves are simple, opposite, petiolate, ovate, up to 8 cm long, at the basis cuneate, on the top pointed. The lamina is variable in shape. The margin is in the lower third of the leaf entire, elsewhere separately sharply dentate. The face is dark green, nearly glabrous. The underside is lighter, with white pili in vein axils or scatterly on the whole surface. The flowers are yellowish-white, 5-7 flowers in racemes, nice-smelling. Flowering in June and July. The fruit is capsule – brown, egg-shaped with remains of calyx and styles. It breaks through 4 flaps. Contains many small seeds, which are the brown and shiny. Shoots: Shoots are thin, squared, lengthwise-striped, brown, with a slightly stripping bark. Pith hexagonal, wide, white-colored. Natural range: South Europe to Caucasus; in in our area introduced.

Buds

Buds are opposite, small, hemispheric, hidden on a leaf cushion inside leaf-scars. There are usually two terminal buds.
