Tree up to 30 m tall, wide-conical crown, and upright branches. Leaves are simple. Lamina is up to 10 cm long. The face is dark green, the underside grey-white tomentose with star-shaped trichomes. The vein axils on the underside are without hairs. The petiole is pubescent. Flowers drooping, heavily nice-smelling, bract with star-shaped trichoms. Flowering in July. The fruit are nuts, ellipsoidal to almost spherical, woody, with indistincts ribs, hairy, warty. Shoots: Shoots hairy, later glabrescent, dim, thin. Natural range: South-east Europe; in our area introduced.

Buds

Buds ovoid with 2 scales and dim grey hair. Cover scales are the same lenght with grey hair.
