Tree 20-40 m tall with burly crown or shrub with many root suckers. Leaf blade solid, on short shoots ovoid, roughly denticulate. On the long shoots palmate lobed (3-5-7 lobes). Face side is dark green, almost hairless. Other side with white hair, sometimes gradually glabrescent. Edge of the blade edge is unevenly denticulate. Petiole is hairy. The fruit are thin-walled capsules with thin white hairy seeds. Capsules are up to 5 mm long, seeds up to 2 mm long. Shoots: Shoots are round, slender, with white-grey hair, sometimes glabrescent. Natural range: Eurasia (south, central and east, west Asia), North Africa.

Buds are hairy, later gradually glabrescent, inviscid, ovoid-conical.

Leaves

Leaves are simple. The lamina is rigid; on short shoots round-ovate, roughly dentate; on long shoots palmate (3-7 lobes). The face is dark green, almost glabrous. The underface is white-tomentose, sometimes becoming bald. The margin is unevenly dentate. The petiole is round, tomentose, 3-5 cm long.

Fruits

The fruit are thin-walled capsules with thin white hairy seeds. Capsules are up to 5 mm long, seeds up to 2 mm long.
