Tree up to 20 m tall with dark gray, scaly bark. Leaf blade oval, 2x serrated. Petiole more than 2 cm long. The fruit are nuts in his Infructescence, 6-10 pieces together. Nuts are approximately 2 cm long. Seed cover is tore almost to the basis. Shoots: Shoots with the cork ribs and rough bark, bark on the older branches may slip. Natural range: South East Europe, Asia; in our area introduced.

Buds

Buds very similar to C. avellana - ovoid to spherical. Bud scales are hairy on the edge.

Leaves

Leave are simple. The lamina is ovate-rounded; twice serrated; with 5-6 pairs of lateral veins. The basis is cordate. The face is almost glabrous; the underface scatteredly pilose. The petiole is more than 2 cm long.
