Green Alder
Duschekia alnobetula
Shrub tall from 0,5 to 3m. The bark brown or gray, smooth. The leaf blade wide oval with 5-6 pairs of lateral veins. The edge of leaf irregularly 2x serrate. The top of the leafobtuse. The other side of the leaf hairy, later hairless with short hair near veins. Woody female cones pedunculated, soft, light brown, ovoid. Achenes are elliptical with a see-through edge. The edge is the same width as seed.
Shoots: Shoots hairy, gradually glabrescent, the older branches with slightly slipping bark.
Natural range: Central Europe, the Balkans and Corsica; in our area domestic.
Buds
Buds sedentary, conical, sharp, slightly sticky. They have 3-6 cover scales.
Leaves
Leaves are simple. The lamia is widely ovate with 5-6 pairs of lateral veins. The leaf margin is irregularly twice serrated. The tip is dully pointed. The underside is tomentose; later glabrous or on veins and at vein axils shortly pilose. The basis usually is truncaded. The petiole is 0.8-1.5 cm long.
Fruits
Woody female cones pedunculated, soft, light brown, ovoid. Achenes are elliptical with a see-through edge. The edge is the same width as seed.
