Tree 30 - 40 m tall with a wide irregular crown. The stem often branches already low above the ground. Leaf blade is lobed. Petiole short, 2 - 7 mm long. The fruit are achenes - acorns. Thestalk is long and hairless. Peidcles are 3-6 cm long. Acorn cup wall is thin, scales are folded, flat, with free tops. Acorns are up to 1,5 cm long, at first significantly lengthwise-striped. Shoots: Shoots a strong and hairless. Natural range: Europe (to 63° N, in the east the Urals), Asia (Caucasus); in our area domestic.

Buds

Buds at the end of shoot, ovoid, rounded, terminal bud the biggest. The scales light brown, on the edge usually ciliate.

Leaves

Leaves are simple. The lamina is widely wedgewise obovate; irregularly pinnatilobate. The basis usually is heart-shaped lobate. The lobes usually are irregularly rounded, often weakly twice lobate. Both the face and the underside are glabrous, rarely scatteredly pubescent. The petiole is short, its length usually is 2-7 mm.
