Deciduous tree 20-50 m tall, conical crown slim, thin, branches high, the main branches downswept, ascending near the ends, lateral branches overhanging. Bark deeply fissured, flaking, medium to dark gray to reddish brown, with reddish inner bark. Shoots thin, yellowish, glabrous, often pendulous. The needles after (15) 30-50 (-90) in bunches on dark brown to black brachyblasts (the stubby short shoots), light green, 10-40 mm large, blunt, with 2 stripes of stomata. Natural range: Central Europe (Alps, Carpathians, the foothills of Hruby Jesenik - Silesia (Czech Republic).
