Deciduous shrub up to 3 m high. Often with sprouts. The bark is irregulary stripped, stinks. Leaves are odd-pinnate, usually composed of 5 leaflets. Leaflets are elliptic with serrate margin. The flowers are in panicles, yelow-green. Flowering in April and May. The fruits are fleshy red drupes arranged in erected infruscentes. Shoots: Shoots are thick, slightly squared, cinnamon brown, hairy or hairless. Older branches are gray-brown with elongated eliptical black lenticels.The core is wide, cinnamon brown. Leaf-scars are cordate. Natural range: Central Europe; in our area domestic.

Buds

Buds are ovoid, green, completely covered by scales. Scales are later brown with violet brown edge, ciliate. Terminal buds are in pairs (however often missing). Flower buds are spherical.
